The new Avio Vineyards and winery
off of Ridge road in Amador County is certainly off to a good start. At the
time I was there, the facility itself was not quite open yet pending some
local red tape courtesy of our local bureaucracy (I understand that they are
now open and fully operational. Can't wait to see). However, to my pleasant
surprise they had the tasting room set up outside. I was first greeted by a
fountain full of giant ducks, but there were also many other friendly
critters on the property. The winery was pouring Cab, Zin, Sangiovese, and
Sauvignon blanc. The wines came across as very nice and refined as if it
were old hat for the new winery. Of particular note was the sublime
Sangiovese which really came through nicely and was very enjoyable. If these
wines are a clue of what we can expect in the future, we're in for a treat. |
