Karmere Vineyards and Winery is
located right off of Shanendoah Road and its property also borders
Shanendoah School Road. The tastefully appointed stone facility is
reminiscent of something you might find in the French countryside, although
they certainly have a modern and spotless facility. When I was there I
skipped the sparkler and went right to the Zins. Wow! These are some huge,
fruity, monstrous, a little on the sweeter side, Zins. To my tastes,
Karmere's zins are very similar to zins which were from the 2000 vintage. In
addition, for those of you who are fans of Rosenblum like I am, it is no
coincidence that the wines are similar in style. The current wine make for
Karmere is none other than Ryan Flock who worked for Rosenblum along with
nearby Renwood. Needless to say, I am smitten with the zinfandel offerings
from Karmere as they are right up my alley. While the zinfandels stood out
to me as such a pleasant surprise, I wouldn't dare forget or belittle the
fabulous Syrah and Barbera, both of which are drinking extremely well and
are extermely big. Karmere is definitely right on top of their game and
their wines would easily stand next to the very top producers in the
foothills, if not beyond. Superb. |
