| Montevina
is the Goliath of wine making in Amador County. Montevina boasts a comparatively
huge case production with national distribution. The
facility is enormous and the tasting room is on par with those found in
the Napa Valley. The manicured grounds have a huge picnic area with
clean, outdoor restroom facilities.
Montevina was tasting about 19 wines when we were there. It is a good idea to let the tasting staff know which individual styles you are interested in, if you plan on walking out the door when you are finished. We found the reserve wines or "Terra d' Oro" vintages to be quite good. Of course, they are more costly than the others too. Of particular note is the TDO Home Zinfandel; very full of big zin pepper and berry flavor. The winery and facility are quite enjoyable, certainly well suited for large parties. |
