| Comments: | Located on Omo Ranch Road, near E16, you'll find Chateau Routon. Follow the long driveway to the top of the hill where you will enjoy spectacular foothill views. This would certainly be an excellent location for an enjoyable picnic. Bob and Sheila, the winery owners, have been busy planting Portuguese varietals for the past several years. It is there intention to specialize in ports and other high end wines. The tasting room is open from 11:00am-4:00pm Wednesday through Sunday and when I was there, Bob was pouring Petite Sirah, Chardonnay, Zin, Sauvignon Blanc, and two very nice ports. I definitely enjoyed my time at this winery. Chateau Routon is an excellent stop and I think it exemplifies what is enjoyable about the foothills. The winery is small and there is a genuine focus on quality. I experienced very courteous and helpful tasting room staff and it was a pleasure to spend some time enjoying the location, the wine, and the conversation. Cheers! |
