"John" at Oakstone is a pleasure to talk to with his vast
knowledge and interesting stories (he can even talk about single malt
scotches! cool.) According to John, the 2001 vintage could be one of
the best ever. If you go to the tasting room, you'll have to try the
Meritage and ask the staff to tell you the story of how it beat out some
of the Napa Valley "Big Guns" in a blind tasting. In
addition, they also produce a fabulous Zin and a great Chardonnay from the
Carneros region. Also, be sure to try the "Slug Gulch
Red", it's very good and certainly an excellent value. Don't
hold the name against the wine; the winery didn't name the road.
