Still a
newcomer winery in the area, David Girard Vineyards is quickly becoming a
regular stop for folks who are wine tasting in the Gold Hill area. This
winery, including the facility and the grounds is definitely a show stopper;
from the minute you pass through the impressive gates and take the leisurely
drive through golden vineyards right up to the immaculate tasting room and
fabulous wines. On the menu you will find Cab, Syrah, Viognier-Roussanne,
and the Chardonnay. All of the wines were very refined and elegant without
a hint of flaws. In particular, I enjoyed the Syrah which had excellent
fruit and spice and a smooth finish. Apparently, Mr. Girard has a keen sense
of wine and winery operations because this place is professional to the
core. According to the friendly tasting room staff, in the future they will
be having more of a focus on Rhones and will be expanding upon their current
offerings. This winery seems to be particularly well suited for catered
events and weddings. Girard’s tasting room hours are Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday 11-5. From Placerville, follow Highway 49 North for about 4 miles,
until you see Gold Hill Road on the left. Follow Gold Hill until it runs
into Cold Springs Road. Go right on Cold Springs for about 2 miles until you
see the winery signs on the right.
