Recently, I
had the pleasure of visiting the newly established "Wofford Acres Vineyards"
(formerly known as Cairn Canyon) in the Apple Hill area of El Dorado County.
Paul Wofford is the new owner/winemaker along with his wife Ann who runs a
fun and festive tasting room. On my recent visit, I had the pleasure of
tasting the 2000 and 2001 offerings in addition to the 2002's in the barrel.
While the 2000 and 2001 (cab, syrah, red table) were good, I am really
excited about what's in the cellar. Paul gave us the complete run-down
and a 30 minute seminar on wines and wine making while we got to enjoy the
2002 barrel samples. Paul's extensive wine making and consulting
background make him an excellent and valuable addition to our El Dorado
County wine community. In addition to the skillfully crafted wines,
the grounds at Wofford are spectacular with the many fruit trees, vineyards,
and an almost magical view of the canyon. Wofford is truly an
incredible place to enjoy the wines, grounds, and views. Hopefully
they won't get too tired of seeing us around :-) Cheers! |
