Bringing food along
while wine tasting should be a requirement by law. It is always a
good idea to bring plenty of water and food when embarking on a day at the
wineries. Lucky for you, the foothills offer some of the best
picnicking available. During the spring and summer months, the
sierra foothills are particularly beautiful and the weather is generally
mild. Combine these elements with some homemade potato salad, a
submarine sandwich on some crusty French bread, of course a fabulous
foothill wine, and you are in paradise.
There are many wineries which offer beautiful picnic spots in the foothills. In fact, most have a place for a picnic. Here's our 10 favorites: |

| 1. Story | Story Vineyards tops our list with it's huge picnic area overlooking a beautiful & scenic canyon, surrounded by cool shady oak trees and gigantic vines. Awesome picnic spot! |

| 2. Wofford | Wofford Vineyards is situated down a small road off of North Canyon Rd. in El Dorado County. Their picnic location overlooks a surprisingly big canyon and the location is quite secluded. Great picnicking! |

| 3. Deaver | Deaver Winery located in Amador County has manicured grounds and a couple of ponds. Almost golf-course like. Very neat and tidy. Lot's of room here. |

| 4. Sierra Vista | Sierra Vista in El Dorado County has probably the best view of the high sierra mountains in the distance. Always pleasant and nicely kept grounds. |

| 5. Holly's Hill | Holly's Hill next to Sierra Vista in El Dorado County has an awesome view of the canyon below. This relatively new winery site was well chosen. |

| 6. Lava Cap | Lava Cap, near Carson Rd. in El Dorado County has a wonderful deck overlooking the beautiful vineyards below. Buy a wine and enjoy. |

| 7. Fitzpatrick | Fitzpatrick sits atop a hill in El Dorado County and has probably the best view in the entire county. They have a huge deck with the facilities to support a large crowd. |

| 8. Dobra | Dobra Zemlja in Amador does not have a huge picnic area, but it is cool and comfortable. The grounds are nice and they provide an excellent sierra foothill atmosphere. |

| 9. Boeger | Boeger Winery located on Carson Rd. in El Dorado County offers a shady and cool picnic location next door to the historic tasting room. Boeger can become a little crowded on a nice weekend, but you can't blame everyone, this is a great location. |

| 10. Chateau Routon | Chateau Routon offers plenty of shaded picnic opportunities and incredible views! |
